You Still Sing

The past was when some of you sang;
our parents hearts belonged to you.
Your songs were their mileposts,
linked forever to those deep times,
that living, we travel through.
You caught their lives
with your tuneful rhymes.

Though you have gone
We hear you even now.
Your voice will live on.
You still sing.

Others of you left us too soon,
before you had your share of time.
You appeared, radiant,
and we turned to you like the sun,
but before you made your climb
your light ended;
your bright song was done.

Though you have gone
We hear you even now.
Your voice will live on.
You still sing.

Some of you sang songs of the times,
but we have changed, and we’re not there;
perhaps you’re not either.
Yes, it’s true, once you sang our dreams,
but these days we just don’t care.
We’ve grown apart.
at least, so it seems.

Though you have gone
We hear you even now.
Your voice will live on.
You still sing.
